What Picolo does well

Picolo has been on the market since 2015 and has a huge stock of cards. Eight “card packs” (Classic, Hot, Crazy, etc.), clean app, good UI, an established brand. If you're looking for a card prompt app and speak English or French, Picolo is a solid choice. They know what they can do and they do it well.

Where Picolo doesn't go

  • Social games like werewolves or impostor. Picolo does cards, not role/bluff games.
  • German (and 19 other EU languages). Picolo has four languages, German is not prominent.
  • 12+ classification. Picolo runs at 17+ because the compulsive drinking default is permanently installed.
  • Own cards. Picolo does not have a "Custom Deck" feature for inside jokes or wedding decks.
  • Characters and visual identity layer. Picolo uses stock illustrations, not an ownable cast.

Where piparo.party fits better

When your round wants to do more than draw cards. A werewolf evening with eight people doesn't need cards, but rather an app that runs the game, distributes roles, and guides you through night and day phases. piparo.party can do that, Picolo can't. The same applies to Impostor, Charades with tilt detection, Bomb Party with movement trigger and Taboom as a team competition.

If your group speaks German and you want the cards to sound really German. In the last few months we have carefully curated the DE source and added 21 additional languages. Picolo's German translation seems like a standard MT pipeline in places.

If the round is mixed or someone takes a break. piparo.party never sets sip as the default, which makes the app useful in family groups, in school settings and for people who drink dry.

What Picolo can do better

Picolo simply has more cards per genre. Their eight card packs are deep and diverse, that is their core business. If you're looking for a pure card experience and sipping prompts are part of the flavor for you, Picolo will give you more material than our free cards today. Pro content makes up for this, but requires payment.
