What 12+ means as an app store classification

Apple's App Store has four age levels: 4+, 9+, 12+, 17+. Anything that contains alcohol requests, sexual content as a default or explicit language ends up at 17+. piparo.party is classified at 12+ because the default cards don't play any of it. The spicy content is accessible separately in the Pro tier and is clearly labeled.

What games work for a 12-14 crew?

Bomb party

Words under time pressure, no one is laughed at. Motion trigger because the phone is being passed on. Works for four people, but for six it's chaotic enough.

Charades

Classic pantomime with tilt detection. One person holds the phone to their forehead, the rest describe. Works for every age group and is allowed-loud.

Speed Challenge

City-country flow at a rapid pace. Anyone who is too slow will be thrown out. Categories are age-appropriate (brands, footballers, capitals, animals). Works for mixed rounds because everyone gets the same letter.

Who would rather?

The cards in piparo.party are curated to have no sexual innuendos as a default. "Who's more likely to miss the bus because they're staring at a squirrel documentary?" works the same for a 14 year old birthday party as it does for a 25 year old.

Which games we don't recommend for 12+

  • Hot Stuff (spicy Truth or Dare). The default is content for the older round.
  • Thirst Trap. Clearly marked as flirt-focused.
  • 100 questions Level 3. Deep is exciting for teens, but Level 3 assumes adult phases of life.
